Gift certificates bring in money up front and introduce new customers to your business. Make professional, numbered certificates with your logo in a few minutes. Choose a dollar amount or a specific item or service, print three to a page, and download a list of the numbers so you can track which have been sold and redeemed. Your logo, colors and contact details come from your brand kit.

Prints 3 certificates per US Letter page, each 7.5 x 3.25 inches, with cut lines. Edit your brand kit.
Keep track of every certificate
Each certificate has its own number. Choose Download list of numbers to get a spreadsheet with the number, value, issue date and expiration of each one, with columns to record who bought it and when it was redeemed. When a customer redeems a certificate, check the number against your list, mark it as used and keep the certificate. This helps prevent copies being used twice.
Expiration dates: know the rules
- Gift certificates you sell are generally covered by the federal Credit CARD Act, which says they can’t expire sooner than five years after they’re issued, and the expiration date must be clearly shown.
- Some states go further and don’t allow expiration dates at all, or set other rules about fees and cash refunds of small balances.
- Free promotional vouchers (given away, not sold) are generally treated differently and can have shorter dates, as long as they’re clearly labeled. Tick This is a free promotional voucher to label it.
The tool warns you if you choose an expiration date less than five years away for a certificate you sell. Rules vary by state, so check your state’s requirements; this isn’t legal advice.
Printing
- Choose Save as PDF (3 per page).
- In the print window, turn on Background graphics so your colors print, and print at 100% scale.
- Use heavy paper or card stock (65 lb cover or heavier) for a quality feel.
- Cut along the marks in the margins with a paper trimmer.
Sign each certificate when you sell it. Many businesses also add a stamp or embossed seal.
Ideas for selling more gift certificates
- Display them at your counter and mention them at checkout, especially before holidays.
- Offer a bonus, such as a free $10 promotional voucher with every $50 certificate.
- Promote them by email and social media in November and December, and before Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
